The County Fire Department (CALFIRE) reminds everyone that all fireworks and sky lanterns are banned by ordinance and are illegal to use, sell, or possess in San Luis Obispo County, unless otherwise permitted.

Many residents and visitors will be celebrating our nation’s independence this July 4th. Several coastal communities plan to offer professional fireworks displays for the public to attend.

The County Fire Department (CALFIRE) reminds everyone that all fireworks and sky lanterns are banned by ordinance and are illegal to use, sell, or possess in San Luis Obispo County, unless otherwise permitted. There is zero tolerance for the use of fireworks, and violation will result in a misdemeanor citation including a $2,000 fine.

With significant fire activity throughout the State and high fire danger in the County due to an abundant grass crop, everyone is urged to avoid any activity that could spark an unwanted fire.

Anyone responsible for starting a wildfire may incur civil and/or criminal penalties, including reimbursement of all suppression costs.
