On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to consider a proposed ordinance that would lower the Cannabis Business Tax (CBT) rate for cannabis businesses operating in the unincorporated areas of the County.
The CBT rate increased automatically to 8% on July 1, 2026, under the terms of the 2018 voter-approved measure, which provides for an automatic 2% increase each July 1st, up to a maximum of 10%, unless the Board of Supervisors votes to hold or reduce the rate.
If the Board adopts the proposed ordinance on August 4, 2026, the reduced CBT rate would take effect on October 1, 2026. Until that date, the 8% rate remains in effect. Cannabis businesses should continue to collect and remit the CBT at 8% for all transactions occurring through September 30, 2026.

Please note: Cannabis businesses operating within the seven incorporated cities in the County should consult with their respective city authorities regarding tax obligations.
