The newly renovated SLO County Elections Center is open to the public through organized tours, but it now offers a way for anyone to get a glimpse of ballot processing year-round: through a video tour that covers each step involved in tabulating Vote-by-Mail.

The November 2024 General Election marked the debut of SLO County's renovated Elections Center. Reconfigured to include about 1,000 square feet of new secure ballot storage space and a high-speed tabulator, among other things, the updated facility now offers the public the chance to see each step involved in Vote-by-Mail processing and tabulation, all in one place.

Recognizing that not everyone has the ability to get to the Elections Center in person during an election, the team also captured behind-the-scenes footage and used it to create a 7-minute video that covers a ballot's progression from arrival through counting and documented storage. The video highlights scanning, signature verification, adjudication, and security, and it walks through the steps that elections staff take to make sure every ballot is treated with the respect it deserves.

The video is available through the Clerk-Recorder's YouTube channel, along with several other informational and instructional resources.
