Beginning in November the County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries offers Mobile MakerKits to check out for people to experiment with new technologies.

The County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries, in partnership with SLO MakerSpace, are now offering Mobile MakerKits. This is a program for adults made possible by an Innovation Station grant funded by California State Library and Southern California Library Cooperative.

“Patrons might be interested in Virtual Reality, Embroidery, or Robotics, but who’s going to run out and spend hundreds of dollars to test out the latest model? With a library card, emerging technology is free,” said the Library’s Adult Services Coordinator, Sharon Coronado. “We believe our communities are capable of amazing things, and the maker movement is the perfect conduit to make amazing things happen.”

The Mobile MakerKits include robotics, coding, sewing, virtual reality, 360° camera, digital tablet, and more. Kits can be checked out for three weeks. The kits will be located at the San Luis Obispo Library branch, but any SLO County library cardholder can place a hold on a kit through

Several free events are planned in conjunction with SLO MakerSpace that will introduce patrons to the new MakerKits. For dates and locations, visit and click on the Events tab. For more information on the kits or any maker programming, email [email protected]
