San Luis Obispo County and Los Angeles/Oxnard Weather Briefing

According to the January 26, 2021, National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard Weather Briefing, San Luis Obispo County is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall through Friday morning with 3 inches to 6 inches total.
As a result, local flooding can be expected to occur in areas of the County over the next few days. Please see attached map for location.
San Luis Obispo County residents located in low lying areas or near creeks are encouraged to prepare for high creek levels and flooding. Specific areas of concern include:
- San Simeon
- Cambria/Northern San Luis Obispo County
- Oceano Lagoon Area
The Oceano Lagoon has limited capacity and the sandbar at the ocean has not breached yet. Forecasted storms will cause storm runoff and drainage to fill the lagoon and could overflow into surrounding residential neighborhoods. Residents surrounding the lagoon should be prepared for flooding during the forecasted storms including potential for evacuation.
- Arroyo Grande Creek Levees in Oceano (north and south direction)
Residents in Oceano are requested to review the Safety Information brochure that was sent to them in December as it provides critical information for what to do in the event of flooding in the Oceano area. A copy of the brochure can be viewed by going to the Public Works website at:
