Construction of the Bob Jones Pathway Gap Closure Project (Segment 1)

San Luis Obispo – On Tuesday September 1, 2026, construction work begins on Segment 1 of the Bob Jones Pathway Project, located between the Octagon Barn and Cloverridge Lane.

The project will include construction of a multi-use pathway to improve access and safety for bicycle and pedestrian users between the two locations. A future segment will extend this portion to the existing Bob Jones Trail Ontario Road trail head, providing contiguous access between the City of San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach.

The contractor installed construction signs on Higuera Street between the Octagon Barn and Cloverridge Lane on Monday, August 31, 2026. Motorists are encouraged to obey construction signs or use alternative routes or modes of transportation where possible. The County will update the public on future construction activity or if traffic delays are expected.

Souza Construction out of San Luis Obispo has been awarded the $10.5 million construction contract to perform the work. The project is funded through a federal Active Transportation Program (ATP) grant provided by the California Transportation Commission. It is anticipated that the project will take up to 18 months to be constructed.
