PASO ROBLES--The County of San Luis Obispo Public Works Department will close North River Road Bridge to traffic to perform repairs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., October 27 to October 29, 2026. The bridge will be open outside of those hours.
The bridge is located about 2.4 miles north of the intersection of North River Road and River Oaks Drive. Pedestrian and cyclist access across the bridge will not be allowed during working hours.
Public Works will replace a damaged timber component on the bridge to prevent it from getting worse and possibly causing an emergency closure. To do this, we need to lift the bridge deck, which means we’ll need to close the road to keep both residents and workers safe during the repair.
This bridge is one of 140 federal highway bridges in San Luis Obispo County inspected by Caltrans. A Caltrans inspector found possible structural issues and recommended these repairs.
The County has coordinated with the Office of Emergency Services, CalFIRE, the County Sheriff, and EMS to ensure first responder access or resident evacuation in the event of an emergency. Residents can sign up to be notified of potential emergency situations or evacuation warnings by visiting AlertSLO.org.
County staff acknowledges that the work may pose an inconvenience, but it is necessary to make the bridge safer and stronger for drivers and emergency vehicles.
