Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw an increase in July 2025
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (July 2025) shows a decrease in the civilian labor force and civilian employment, and an increase in civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 5.2% in July 2025, which is an increase from the revised June 2025 rate. SLO County ranks as the 13th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California was 6.1% and 4.6% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Information and Professional and Business Services industry experienced the only job growth in this reporting period, adding 100 jobs each.
The Mining, Logging, and Construction, Manufacturing, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities, Financial Activities, Private Education and Health Services, and Leisure and Hospitality industries saw no changes in job loss or growth during July.
The Government sector experienced the most losses during this report period, losing 1,500 jobs, and the Other Services industry also experienced job losses in July, losing 100 jobs.
Total Farm experienced a month-over loss of 100 jobs.
During the July reporting period, San Luis Obispo County lost a total of 1,500 jobs.
Year-over Job Changes
The Private Education and Health Services industry experienced the largest year-over change, adding 700 jobs each. The Government industry added 500 jobs over the past year.
The Manufacturing, Information, Financial Activities, and Professional and Business Services industries reported no changes since the same time last year.
The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry experienced the most significant year-over-year loss, losing 500 jobs since the same reporting period in 2024. The Leisure and Hospitality industry had a year-over loss of 400 jobs. The Other Services and the Mining, Logging, and Construction industries experienced a year-over loss of 100 jobs each.
Total Farm experienced a year-over gain of 500 jobs.
Overall, employers in San Luis Obispo County gained 600 jobs over the past year.
