Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw a decrease in August 2025
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (August 2025) shows a decrease in the civilian labor force, civilian employment, and civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 5% in August 2025, which is a decrease from the revised July 2025 rate. SLO County ranks as the 13th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California was 5.8% and 4.5% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Mining, Logging, and Construction, Manufacturing, Professional and Business Services, Private Education and Health Services, and Leisure and Hospitality industries all experienced job growth in this reporting period, adding 100 jobs each.
The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities, Financial Activities, and Other Services industries saw no changes in job loss or growth during the month of August.
The Government sector experienced the most losses during this report period, losing 1,000 jobs, and the Information industry also experienced job losses in August, losing 100 jobs.
Total Farm experienced a month-over loss of 300 jobs.
During the August reporting period, San Luis Obispo County lost a total of 900 jobs.
Year-over Job Changes
The Private Education and Health Services industry experienced the largest year-over change, adding 900 jobs. The Mining, Logging, and Construction and the Government industries added 100 jobs each over the past year.
The Manufacturing, Financial Activities, and Leisure and Hospitality industries reported no changes since the same time last year.
The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry experienced the most year-over loss, losing 600 jobs since this same reporting period in 2024. The Information, Professional and Business Services, and Other Services industries experienced a year-over loss of 100 jobs each.
Total Farm experienced a year-over gain of 200 jobs.
Overall, employers in San Luis Obispo County gained 400 jobs over the past year.
