Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw no change in October 2024

The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (October 2024) shows a decrease in the civilian labor force, a decrease in civilian employment, and no change in civilian unemployment.

 

Unemployment

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 4% in October 2024, unchanged from the revised September 2024 rate.  SLO County ranks 5th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California was 5.4% and 3.9% in the nation during the same period.

 

Month-over Job Changes

The Government industry had the most gains reported in October, adding 1,000 jobs. Private Education and Health Services reported a gain of 300 jobs. The Mining, Logging, and Construction industry reported a gain of 200 jobs during the same period.  The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities, Financial Activities, and the Leisure and Hospitality industries experienced a month-over gain of 100 jobs each.

The Manufacturing, Information, Professional and Business Services, and Other Services industries all saw no changes in job loss or growth during the month of October. 

No job losses were reported in October.  

Total Farm reported a gain of 100 jobs during the month of October.

In the October 2024 reporting period, San Luis Obispo County gained a total of 1,900 jobs.

 

Year-over Job Changes

The Private Education and Health Services industry experienced the largest year-over change, adding 1,100 jobs. The Mining, Logging and Construction industry reported a year-over-gain of 400 jobs and the Leisure and Hospitality industry gained 300 jobs. The Financial Activities, Professional and Business Services, and Other Services industries each reported a gain of 100 jobs since this time last year. 

The Information industry had no year-over job losses or gains.

The Government industry had the largest year over loss, losing 1,500 jobs. Trade, Transportation, and Utilities experienced year-over losses of 300 jobs and the Manufacturing industry lost 200 jobs.

Total Farm reported losing 100 jobs since last year at this time.

San Luis Obispo County employers reported no year-over change in jobs.
