Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw a decrease in September 2024
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (September 2024) shows an increase in the civilian labor force, an increase in civilian employment, and a decrease in civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 4% in September 2024, which is a decrease from the revised August 2024 rate. SLO County continues to rank the 7th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California was 5.3% and 3.9% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Government industry had the most gains reported in September, adding 500 jobs. Manufacturing, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities and the Private Education and Health Services industries experienced a month-over gain of 100 jobs each.
The Information, Financial Activities, Professional and Business Services, and Other Services industries all saw no changes in job loss or growth during the month of September.
The Leisure and Hospitality industry experienced the most job losses in September, losing 300 jobs. The Mining, Logging, and Construction industry reported a loss of 200 jobs during the same period.
Total Farm reported a gain of 300 jobs during the month of September.
In the September 2024 reporting period, San Luis Obispo County gained a total of 500 jobs.
Year-over Job Changes
The Private Education and Health Services industry experienced the largest year-over change, adding 1,300 jobs. The Professional and Business Services industry reported a year-over-gain of 200 jobs. The Mining, Logging and Construction, Leisure and Hospitality, and Other Services industries each reported a gain of 100 jobs since this time last year.
The Financial Activities and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industries had no year-over job losses or gains.
The Manufacturing, Information, and Government industries experienced year-over losses of 100 jobs each.
Total Farm reported losing 100 jobs since last year at this time.
San Luis Obispo County employers reported a year-over gain of 1,400 jobs.
