Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw an increase in August 2024
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (August 2024) shows a decrease in the civilian labor force, a decrease in civilian employment, and an increase in civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 4.4% in August 2024, which is an increase from the revised July 2024 rate. SLO County ranks as the 7th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California was 5.9% and 4.4% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Private Education and Health Services and the Mining, Logging, and Construction industries had the only gains reported in August, each added 100 jobs.
The Information, Financial Activities, Professional and Business Services, Manufacturing, and Other Services industries all saw no changes in job loss or growth during the month of August.
The Government industry experienced the most job losses in August, losing 700 jobs. The Leisure and Hospitality industry reported 200 job losses and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities lost 100 jobs during the same period.
Total Farm reported a loss of 400 jobs during the month of August.
In the August 2024 reporting period, San Luis Obispo County lost a total of 1,200 jobs.
Year-over Job Changes
The Private Education and Health Services industry experienced the largest year-over change, adding 1,300 jobs. The Mining, Logging and Construction industry experienced a gain of 300 jobs in the past year. The Professional and Business Services reported year-over-gain of 200 jobs. The Other Services and the Leisure and Hospitality industries each reported a gain of 100 jobs.
The Financial Activities industry has had no job losses or gains since this time last year.
The Government industry experienced the most year-over losses with 1,100 jobs reported. The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities, Manufacturing, and Information industries also reported a year-over loss of 100 jobs each.
Total Farm reported losing 600 jobs since last year at this time.
San Luis Obispo County employers reported a year-over gain of 300 jobs.
