If you need to meet with assessor staff, video conferencing or appointments can be scheduled. Our office is open to the public; however, there may be wait times due to the requirements for social distancing (Per California of Public Health Guidance, face coverings need to be worn while in the building). Documents may also be mailed in or delivered using the public drop box located outside our office lobby.

Religious Exemption

Who can use this service?

This service is available to religious organizations who own property and conduct worship services and related religious activities on the site. 

What is the process?

Step 1: Apply for a Religious Exemption

First time religious exemption claimants must submit:

  • A completed Religious Exemption Form
  • A copy of the organization's certified articles of incorporation
  • A copy of a tax letter designating the organization's non-profit status

Is there a charge for this service?

This service is provided free of charge.

When and where is this service offered?

This service is available throughout the year during regular business hours except during scheduled holidays.

What is a Religious Exemption?

Exemptions from property tax are available to religious organizations that own property and use the property exclusively for conducting worship services and other related religious activities (e.g. bible studies, weddings, church operated schools, etc.).

How do I apply for a religious exemption?

First time religious exemption claimants must submit:

  • A completed Religious Exemption Form
  • A copy of the organization's certified articles of incorporation
  • A copy of a tax letter designating the organization's non-profit status
When should I file to receive a religious exemption?

The annual filing period is January 1st through February 15th. Once eligibility for the religious exemption has been approved, there is a simplified filing process and no penalty for filing late.
