District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that Paso Robles resident Juan Antonio Esquivel was sentenced to six years in state prison for his conviction of lewd act on a child under the age of fourteen and sexual penetration by a foreign object for acts of sexual abuse that occurred in December of 2016.

District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that Paso Robles resident Juan Antonio Esquivel (31) has been sentenced to six years in state prison for his crimes of child molestation.  His convictions are for committing a lewd act and sexual penetration by a foreign object of a victim who was 12 years of age at the time of the crime.  These charges stem from an incident of sexual abuse that occurred in December of 2016.  San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Judge Jesse Marino imposed the sentence after hearing impact statements by the minor victim and her mother.  Esquivel faced a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison.  He will be required to register as a sex offender.

On June 6, 2019, a San Luis Obispo County jury found Antonio Esquivel guilty of the crimes after a two-week trial and one half day of deliberation.

“We admire the courage of this young victim in coming forward to report the abuse and to testify in court,” said District Attorney Dan Dow. “Sexual abuse of children is a predatory act that will always be pursued vigorously by our staff.  We thank the jury for their service and are proud of the hard work of our entire prosecution team that ensured this victim’s voice could be heard and this offender could be held accountable.”

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Lisa Muscari and investigated by the Paso Robles Police Department.
