The County of SLO Public Libraries will be offering a Fine Amnesty in January of 2019. During this month patrons can have their overdue fines removed from their account and begin using their library card again.

It’s time to pull out that long overdue library book, because January is Fine Amnesty Month for County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries.

Regardless of how overdue an item is, all County Library branches will waive all overdue fees, clearing the account for checkout of new materials. Fine forgiveness does not apply to fees charged for lost materials, however.

According to Assistant Library Director, Chase McMunn, “The goal of this amnesty program is to get patrons back into the library and reading again. We first and foremost want library materials back and want patrons to be able to use the library. This fine amnesty allows us to further our mission of connecting the community to knowledge, culture, and creativity. We really hope this is an opportunity for families that can’t afford to pay old overdue fines to return to the library.”

Fine Amnesty is available the entire month of January. Simply return your overdue books to any County Library and your overdue fines will be waived. The program kicks off a year of celebration in honor of the Centennial anniversary of County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries.
