Tribal Cultural Resource Consultation
In accordance with California Assembly Bill 52 (AB 52), the Department of Planning & Building consults with Native American tribes regarding any project that is not exempt from environmental review. This consultation provides the most effective way for the Department to determine if a project could result in significant environmental impacts to tribal cultural resources.
What is the process?
Notify Tribes
Department of Planning & Building staff notifies all tribal representatives who have requested notification within fourteen days of deciding to undertake a land use project or otherwise determining that a land use application is complete.
Request Consultation
Tribal representatives have thirty days to request consultation with staff once they receive notification.
Consult with Tribes
Staff consults with tribal representatives within thirty days of receiving the tribe's request for consultation.
Who can use this service?
Any California Native American tribe on the Native American Heritage Commission List can request to be placed on the Department's notification list.
Is there a charge for this service?
This service is provided free of charge.
When and where is this service offered?
This service is available throughout the year during regular business hours except during scheduled holidays.
