County libraries offer dino-themed storytimes, crafts, a story walk, and more for Family Literacy Month
November is National Family Literacy Month and County of SLO Public Libraries is hosting Dinovember, a month of family learning events and activities with a dinosaur theme.
What are some free family activities the library offers during November?
Dinovember is a collaboration between the library’s youth services and literacy departments, where families can attend dino-themed storytimes, get hands-on with dino crafts and scavenger hunts, and meet some friendly, costumed dinosaurs.
"When families read, explore, ask questions, and discover new things together, they are building a love of learning that can last a lifetime. Dinovember is a fun way for us to bring families into the library, spark that curiosity, and share the joy of learning one dinosaur story at a time,” said Michelle Haddad, literacy coordinator for the libraries.
Also planned is a story walk at Dinosaur Caves in Shell Beach November 1 – 30, featuring a book by popular children’s author Mo Willems. Edwina, the Dinosaur Who Forgot She was Extinct, will be on display throughout the park, and families can stroll and read the displays of the book’s pages.
