New Duffle bags donated to Social Services for foster care youth.

When the San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services has to remove children or youth from homes due to abuse or neglect, those kids often leave in crisis with no chance to pack personal belongings. At times, they only have a few minutes to throw some clothes in a grocery or garbage bag.

Legacy Church in Atascadero wanted to do something to help the increasing number of children who are caught in crisis situations with added stressors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  They decorated and packed nearly a hundred brand new duffle bags packed with a blanket, toiletries and several other necessities.   A church member, who is also a foster parent, assisted in teaming with Social Services to make this happen.   Because of their generosity, Social Workers will now be able to grab a few bags each time they head out on a crisis call.

There are more than 350 children and youth in foster care right now in San Luis Obispo, and with the financial and social stressors of COVID-19, the need for safe, loving homes is greater than ever.  In addition to the increased number of kids entering foster care, many current foster families are unable to care for youth due to their biological kids returning home from college, the demand of homeschooling and their own financial pressures.   If you have space in your heart and home to care for a youth or teen, please call (805) 781-1705 or visit www.slofostercare.com.
