As part of implementing the County of San Luis Obispo’s Countywide Plan to Address Homelessness, approved by the Board of Supervisors August 9, 2022, the Homeless Services Division is being established within the Department of Social Services. Part of this effort includes transferring the Housing Section from Planning and Building into the newly formed Division.

The mission of the San Luis Obispo County Homeless Services is to end homelessness in the County. It aims to meet the mission through:
1) Advocating for people experiencing homelessness or those at risk of homelessness.
2) Developing and maintaining a network of members and supporters, and providing technical assistance and coordination through the committees
3) Providing public education about the problem of homelessness and its solutions

The Homeless Services unit within the Department of Social Services coordinates and provides technical assistance to nonprofit and public sector service providers who support homeless people within the County.
