Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw no change in October 2023
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (October 2023) shows an increase in the civilian labor force, an increase in civilian employment, and no change in civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 3.5% in October 2023, which is the same as the revised September 2023 rate. SLO County ranks as the 3rd lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California is 4% and 3.6% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Government industry experienced the most job growth in this reporting period, adding 800 jobs. The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities and Private Education and Health Services industries each added 400 jobs during the month of October.
The Manufacturing, Professional and Business Services, and Leisure and Hospitality industries each added 100 jobs during the October reporting period.
The Information, Financial Activities, and Other Services industries saw no change in job loss or growth during the month of October.
The Mining, Logging, and Construction industry experienced the largest loss with 100 jobs.
Total Farm gained 300 jobs during the month of October.
During the October reporting period, San Luis Obispo County employers experienced a gain of 2,100 jobs overall.
Year-over Job Changes
The Leisure and Hospitality industry experienced the largest year-over change, gaining 1,600 jobs. The Private Education and Health Services industries added 1,200 jobs over the past year. The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry experienced a year-over gain of 1,000 jobs. The Government industry experienced a year-over gain of 700 jobs. The Manufacturing industry added 300 jobs from the same time last October. The Other Services industry experienced an increase of 100 jobs over the past year.
No year-over changes were reported in the Financial Activities industry.
The Professional and Business Services industry lost 300 jobs this past year. The Mining, Logging and Construction industry lost 200 jobs since last October. The Information industry experienced a loss of 100 jobs since this same reporting period in 2022.
Total Farm experienced a year-over gain of 300 jobs.
Overall, employers in San Luis Obispo County gained 4,600 jobs over the past year.
