Santa Maria Groundwater Basin Boundary Modifications Public Meeting

Author: Public Works
Date: 3/30/2018 7:49:44 AM

The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works invites the public and interested community members to attend a presentation on the proposed boundary modifications to the Santa Maria Groundwater Basin (“Basin”) within the Non-Adjudicated Portions (i.e., “Fringe Areas”) of the Basin.

The adjudicated area covers a majority of the Basin, however, there are multiple “Fringe Areas” located outside of the adjudicated area in both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. These “Fringe Areas” are required to comply with the State law guiding groundwater management (the “Sustainable Groundwater Management Act”, SGMA).

On March 6, 2018, the County of San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors directed staff to explore a boundary modification for the Basin in order to realign the State’s Basin boundary based on the best available current scientific information.
